Our values

Our story
GKEA was founded by Teacher Maddy towards the end of 2024 with the intention of supporting the development of student’s confidence in academic self expression. Working in online education, I often noticed my students struggled with text comprehension, as well as effectively communicating and justifying their ideas. For children to succeed in today’s world, we need strong critical thinking and communication skills, using appropriate vocabulary and sentence structure to voice ideas. This prompted me to start GKEA, aiming to ‘fill in the gaps’ I noticed. Our academy is small for now, but I’m hoping this allows me to provide better service and support to my students as they move through their English journey with us!

Our approach to learning
Hands on, engaging learning
We explore concepts through relevant, meaningful activities that encourage students to reflect and share ideas, building self-expression and justification skills. Through class discussions, workbook activities, and writing tasks, students’ gain exposure to problem-solving skills, creativity, and resilience; developing the confidence and independence to be lifelong learners.
Student centred learning.
Aligning to teaching practices in the Australian curriculum, our classes keep student’s academic development central in our planning and delivery. As we are a small academy, we have the added opportunity to connect with students and parents on a more 1×1 basis to ensure they feel supported throughout their GKEA journey.
Growth mindset teaching principles.
Growth mindsets help students see challenges as opportunities, not roadblocks, encouraging persistence, resilience, and the belief that effort leads to improvement. When children embrace mistakes as part of learning, they build confidence, curiosity, and problem-solving skills – we want our students at GKEA to feel ready to tackle any challenge that comes their way!

Meet the teacher

Who is teacher Maddy?
With a background of working as a swimming teacher, kids sports coach, and relief teacher, I’ve spent the last 8+ years engaged in supporting children’s learning and development across a range of contexts.
Good quality teaching has the potential to positively affect a child’s trajectory, contributing towards their confidence and self-esteem. I became a teacher, primarily, because I wanted to help children feel capable to tackle challenges, find answers, and make their own judgments.
As we grow up, we often lose that initial curiosity for life. Something I love about teaching is helping students build their curiosity for the world around them.
